You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.
2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.
3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Iran or Chinese and North Korean communists.
4. You have to believe that there was no art before federal funding.
5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV's.
6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial, but being homosexual is natural.
7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.
8. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.
9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but PETA activists do.
10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.
11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make "The Passion of the Christ" for financial gain only.
12. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.
13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.
14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Gen. Robert E. Lee, and Thomas Edison.
15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.
16. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere that it has been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.
17. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag queens and transvestites should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.
18. You have to believe that this message is a part of a vast, right-wing conspiracy.

GOD BLESS AMERICA! Oops, can't do that either!

P.S. You also have to think that the US and UK in particular, and Western Civilization in general are the causes of turmoil in the world and that Islamic Jihadism doesn’t exist.
Send your e-mail address to yamhillrepublicans@verizon.net to sign up for our newsletter and updates...

Platform Alert

It is time we expose Republicans that stray from our platform and ideals. It shows a great step forward toward a Republican Governor in Oregon for the first time in decades:

Hello everyone! We are so excited by the Oregonian’s endorsement – they captured
Ron’s leadership style, his vision and his commitment to change. Enjoy and let’s all keep working hard for Victory on November 7 – my goal is 200 calls today! Lynne Saxton

FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
October 14, 2006

CONTACT: Angela Wilhelms
PHONE: 503-224-2006

Oregonian Endorses Saxton for Governor

Recognizing the desperate need for change in Oregon’s top office, The Oregonian has endorsed Ron Saxton to be Oregon’s next governor. The Sunday edition of the paper echoes what voters throughout Oregon believe: it’s time for a change at the top because this state is not living up to its potential, and we need a governor willing to actually lead Oregon down a better path.

Below are some excerpts from the editorial, “Change begins at the top,” that appears in the Sunday edition of the newspaper:

“Ron Saxton opens many of his campaign appearances with a question: Are you satisfied with Oregon and its state government? We’re not.”

“This state must change, and the change must begin at the top: Voters should elect Ron Saxton as the next governor.”

“But Oregon needs new energy, new blood, new ideas and a determination to get them done. And only Saxton, the most capable Republican candidate for Oregon governor in the 24 years that Democrats have held the job, promises to bring that passion for change to the executive office.”

“Saxton, meanwhile, is eager to pursue creative, even controversial, ways to make available dollars stretch further. He doesn’t believe the only chance is a new insurance tax, or the same shrunken state patrol. He’s ready to attack the health care costs eroding education budgets. He’s prepared to experiment with outsourcing some state administrative tasks to save money and be more effective. He’s willing to
go looking for cost savings, efficiencies and innovations where no Oregon governor has gone over the past two decades.”

“…on the core issues – strengthening education, bolstering the police and restoring the trust of voters – Saxton stands just where Oregon’s next governor must stand.”

“It is a leap of faith to endorse a former school board chairman over a sitting governor. If all was well, we would recommend that voters re-elect Kulongoski, but the times demand a fresh look at Oregon’s problems and Saxton brings an open, independent mind to the task. We recommend that voters select him as their next governor.”

The full editorial will be available online at http://www.oregonlive.com/ on Sunday, October 15; a transcription is attached.

-View Editorial here-
###

Send your e-mail address to yamhillrepublicans@verizon.net to sign up for our newsletter and updates...

Special Ron Saxton event announced at Linfield College...

Linfield College Republicans are hosting a campaign stop for Ron Saxton in Linfield's Melrose Hall on October 19th from 7-8pm. What has happened to American I asked?

What happened?

May 8th 2005 marked the 60th anniversary of the Allied victory over the Axis powers of World War II. Commonly referred to as “VE day”, our Victory in Europe came at a heavy price, but few would argue with the notion that we simply had to win. If those brave men and women of our Armed Forces hadn’t sacrificed, we could very well be speaking German today, or worse yet, some among us wouldn’t be here at all.

We have brave men and women fighting today as well. They are serving their country and working to make this a better world for all of us. My question is “what happened”? What happened to the America of the 1940’s? What happened to the sense of honor, duty, industry, ingenuity and grit that helped us win a decisive Victory in Europe in relatively short order (D-Day was June 6th 1944 – VE Day was May 8th 1945)?

In the HBO series “Band of Brothers”, a WWII veteran introduces an episode by commenting on the sentiment of the era “We came from a small small town and three fellas in that town, who were ‘4F’, committed suicide because they couldn’t go – a different time”.

That line has been haunting ever since. My fellow Republicans and right thinking Americans, what has happened to us and how can we get back that devotion to God, country and each other that once was so common? Am I too optimistic in thinking we can some day bring that level of citizenship and civility back before it’s too late?

Not only did 18-year-old boys give their lives to win WWII but those that were home did what they could to shorten the war. Besides the paper drives, rubber drives and victory gardens, the race for productivity and ingenuity was common. Just think, before the war, there was no such think as a “Jeep”, the Higgins boat landing craft or radar. What other nation on earth had the will power, the political framework and economic structure that would breed such a successful campaign while fostering invention?

Do we in 2006 have the same will power to endure through the trials of combat? War is never a sanitary or predictable enterprise. In WWII, Operation Market Garden saw 10,000 men (from Allies alone – British, American, Canadian & Polish) parish and we lost roughly 900 in training exercises for D-Day. I’m afraid that today’s media, most politicians and especially our friends in Hollywood would have demanded that we get out of the war and let Hitler have his way with all of Europe.

Would we give up a couple of televisions, microwaves or trips to the movies in order to win the War on Terror? Are we encouraging those that we work with to be as industrious and inventive as possible to make sure the country maintains a strong economic position that could withstand another major domestic terrorist act?

America today is in a sad state of affairs. I believe it is incumbent upon those of us that understand what is at stake to do all we can to re-right the ship. So this is my call to arms my friends – take that fire in your belly and do something with it. The opposition (both foreign and domestic) will not tire. They will not waver. They will not give up.

Terrorists still have us in their sights. The anti-gun types will not stop until you have no guns in your homes. Some will not stop until any “two or more beings that have feelings for each other” can marry. Others will stop at nothing until the State owns all property.

Republicans have a nasty tendency of being employed and don’t have as much time on our hands as the “Moveon.org” types. We often feel like we’ve won a battle and can move on to other things. I beg you not to sit back just because we did well in the last election, but to pick your battles and volunteer to help us continue the fight of saving America.
Send your e-mail address to yamhillrepublicans@verizon.net to sign up for our newsletter and updates...

Please consider the following announcement from Kim Thatcher. The fundraiser is called “A Reception to Celebrate Positive Leadership” and it runs from 4 PM to 6 PM at J. James Restaurant, 325 High Street SE, Salem.

“As State Representative, Kim Thatcher has worked hard to bring accountability to state government. She has been an effective voice for her constituents and an energetic leader in our caucus. We all need her in Salem,” said Scott.

“We are hoping to have several current and former state legislators attend the event, along with many local civic and business leaders from Marion and Yamhill counties,” said Thatcher. The reception is open to anyone who wants to meet the candidate or chat with other community leaders in attendance and contributions are encouraged.

Representative Thatcher is encouraged by the feedback she’s getting from voters. “I hear from people all over my legislative district who say they want a good education for our kids, more jobs and tougher laws against illegal immigration,” noted Thatcher. “These and other issues are why I want to return to the legislature to keep working for the voters in House District 25.”

House District 25 covers Keizer, Newberg, and St. Paul. Thatcher was first elected to the seat in 2004 after defeating former Representative Vic Backlund. In many cases we'll be able to tell Oregonians about Ron, but also work for our local candidates (like Larry George, Donna Nelson, Kim Thatcher, etc.) at the same time. We'll be placing lawn signs for all of our candidates at the same time. I will bring with me to Salem new ideas, imagination and a commitment to creating a more responsible, efficient and effective state government.
You deserve more out of the governor’s office and by working together we will make good on the words of Thomas Edison who once said, “If we did the things we are capable of doing, we would astound ourselves.”
Together we will put Oregon on the right track again –
Together we will reform Oregon’s education system, not by making small changes, but by embracing bold ideas with proven results and putting education funding first in our budget process.
Together we will cut government waste and inefficiency, not by tinkering around the edges, but by being aggressive about accountability, efficiency and performance. We will show that government can live within its means and we will hold the line on taxes.
Together we will promote Oregon’s clean energy industries, expanding on the many innovative projects and ideas already underway in our state to reduce dependency on oil and improve the environment.
Together we will invest in Oregon’s future through greater commitment to Oregon’s universities and community colleges, support for Oregon’s businesses, and reducing the cost of healthcare.
You can learn more about my campaign – our campaign – for change by visiting my website at www.votesaxton.com. He will be representing the 1st Congressional District in Oregon and will unseat Congressman Wu.)

For Immediate ReleaseContact:

MacKensey Thompson(503) 640-4089
Wednesday, August 16, 2006

Kitts Accepts Debate Invitation from Local Civic Group
Want to see Wu there? Make sure to bring 299 of your friends

HILLSBORO—A member of a Hillsboro civic group,
speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed Monday that the David Wu
for Congress campaign said that Congressman Wu was unable to
participate in a debate with State Representative and candidate for
Congress Derrick Kitts because their membership was less than 300.

When the group contacted the Kitts campaign about the debate, Derrick
gladly accepted. “I would like to know what David is doing that is more
important than meeting with the people of Oregon. Where’s Wu?
The people of the First District should be given the opportunity to see
the candidates in order to determine which candidate best reflects their
views on the issues that matter to them,” Derrick said.

In 1998, David Wu ran for Congress and he too believed that the people of
the First District should be able to see the candidates side by side. Mr.
Wu’s press release dated July 31, 1998 stated, “We think the voters of the
First Congressional District deserve a chance to evaluate the two
candidates side by side, and learn what each candidate stands for [sic].
That is what democracy is all about.”

The Kitts for Congress campaign couldn’t agree more. They too have
submitted numerous debate requests to the David Wu campaign. To date,
there has been no answer from the Wu camp.

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Derrick Kitts is a 4th generation native. Currently serving his second term in the Oregon State Legislature, Derrick serves as the Majority Whip and Chairman of the powerful Rules Committee, Derrick continues to work and address the many important issues affecting the residents of Oregon and works hard to serve as an effective advocate for the constituents he represents.

Since he entered the legislature in 2003, Derrick has been leading the fight for campaign finance reform and strengthening our economy through job creation. Derrick understands the best way to fund our schools and senior programs are to ensure a strong workforce with family wage jobs. Derrick also understands that the government runs best when the people have faith their government is being run ethically and honorably. In Congress, Derrick will fight to ensure our schools are funded at levels that are needed for success by all children of all ages. Derrick will also show the same tenacity for bringing integrity to the political process in Washington DC as he has done so effectively in the Oregon Legislature.

Read more about Derrick’s background by visiting his website www.derrickkitts.com.
Or get in contact with his campaign:
MacKensey Thompson
mackensey@derrickkitts.com
Deputy Campaign Manager
DERRICK KITTS FOR CONGRESS
P 503-640-4089
F 503-640-4055
Send your e-mail address to yamhillrepublicans@verizon.net to sign up for our newsletter and updates...

Have we forgotten already?

The HBO mini series “Band of Brothers” has many poignant statements and images about Paratroopers and their experiences in WWII. Some are from the real men who fought the Germans in the war, others are recreations.

Near the end of one episode, Private David Kenyan Webster (Webster was a member of E Company, 506th Regiment of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division) talks over the scene of Easy Company moving out of Haguenau, France in February 1945 toward their next objective. He says:

“I wonder if people back home would ever know what it cost the soldiers to win this war. In America, things were already beginning to look like peacetime. The standard of living was on the rise, race tracks and night clubs were booming, you couldn’t get a hotel room in Miami beach it was so crowded. How could anyone ever know the price paid by soldiers, in terror agony and bloodshed, if they’d never been to places like Normandy, Bastogne, or Haguenau?”

This sentiment is as true then as it is today. In just 5 years many Americans have forgotten the lessons we “learned” on September 11th. Our brave men and women have fought, bled and died for our freedoms. Not only those on the front lines but those back home as well have paid a high price. Let us never forget them and what they have given all of us.
Send your e-mail address to yamhillrepublicans@verizon.net to sign up for our newsletter and updates...

I recently received an e-mail from one of my brothers with a short “refresher course” on our right to keep and bear arms. Some folks seem to forget that the 2nd Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms, is just as much of a right as the right to free speech. See if you could use one of these points the next time your “lefty” sister-in-law complains about the gun show loophole or some other crazy nonsense.

FIREARMS REFRESHER COURSE

1. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
2. A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.
3. Colt... The original point and click interface.
4. Gun control is not about guns; it is about control.
5. If guns are outlawed, can we use swords?
6. If guns cause crime, then pencils must cause misspelled words.
7. “Free" men do not ask permission to bear arms.
8. If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.
9. Those who trade liberty for security have neither.
10. The United States Constitution © 1789, 2nd Amendment 1791. All Rights Reserved.
11. What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand?
12. The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.
13. 64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.
14. Guns only have two enemies: rust and politicians.
15. Know guns, know peace, know safety. No guns, no peace, no safety.
16. You don't shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive.
17. 911 - government sponsored Dial-a-Prayer.
18. Assault is a behavior, not a device.
19. Criminals love gun control -- it makes their jobs safer.
20. If guns cause crime, then matches cause arson.
21. Only a government that is afraid of its citizens tries to control them.
22. You only have the rights you are willing to fight to keep.
23. Enforce the "gun control laws" we have, don't make more.
24. When you remove the people's right to bear arms, you create slaves.
25. The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control.
26. In addition to the regular State Central Committee Delegates and Alternates, each county elects bonus Delegates and Alternates to the Convention; those elections will be held in late June or early July as only the PCP elected in the Primary are eligible to vote in those elections. This year, we've added something new - training and orientation sessions intended to make sure the process is understood by most of the people at the Convention and to provide a venue to discuss potential amendments to the platform. In CD1, we're going to do this twice; once with the existing state Central Committee delegations (again, that would be you) and, after they're elected, with the entire Convention delegation (you plus the bonus folks). We're holding the district-wide meeting from 2:00-4:00pm Saturday, 20 May 2006 at Biggi Plaza, near the Washington County Republican Headquarters on Cedar Hills Blvd. in Beaverton. We'll give more details, including directions, as we get closer to the date, but a preliminary agenda is attached.

If you have questions please give me a call at 503-407-8684 or email at chair@firstdistrictgop.org
Let's roll!
Jeff SmithFirst District GOP (Oregon)
www.FirstDistrictGOP.orgChair@FirstDistrictGOP.org
Send your e-mail address to yamhillrepublicans@verizon.net to sign up for our newsletter and updates...

Do you have kids (or grandkids) in public schools?

Day of Truth Counters Message of Intolerance
by Wendy Cloyd, assistant editor, Citizen Link

Students to proclaim the truth that homosexuality is not an immutable trait.

On April 27, high school students at more than 700 schools will counter the message of the previous day's pro-gay Day of Silence with their own call for tolerance: tolerance for the Christian perspective that homosexuality is against God's design, and that those who wish to may choose to seek God's best plan for them.

The Day of Truth, now in its second year, was established by the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) in response to the censorship of Christian students who wanted to present their opinions and beliefs.
